Meeting General Lee

Happy Civil War Saturday!  It's been a while since I've posted about my Civil War Diary Quilt.  I'm still working on row 5.  This week I worked on the block named 'Meeting General Lee.  In this passage of Isabella Buchanan Edmondson's diary she writes about meeting General Lee at General Forrest's headquarters.

"...I am perfectly delighted with him, if I had a heart to lose, I think it would be in danger.  God bless both of them, spare time to our Country, and crown them with Victory, in the battle which awaits them...."
Isabella Buchanan Edmondson

It's a super easy block and I took the really easy way out of making it. I could have rotary cut the fabric and sewn it, but I used the foundation paper that I printed from Rosemary's companion CD to the book.  I pretty happy with how the corners all met....
I picked fabric out of my Civil War stash that resembles the fabric in the Civil War Diary Book.

Well.. this is the foundation paper that I printed up from the companion CD.  It has some 'extra' seams printed on it.  I ignored these and "X" them out so I didn't accidentally sew on them for the seams.  As you can see I wrote the colors in the different sections of the block.

Love this handy dandy mini, tiny iron!  Makes those quick ironing moments, like ironing a small seam down so easy!  Don't have to leave my sewing chair, it's right by my sewing machine.

Sewing on the line using a tiny seam....

The four sections of the block are done and trimmed up.  Just need to sewing the sections together.

Happy quilting and perfect stitches to you,

Day 2.... I'm Still A Slacker....

Here I am, day 2.... still a slacker.  It's 10:40 and I've managed to still be in my jammies, drinking my second cup of coffee.  Oh my it's almost lunch-time.  Hubby is off to work, Wilson is sitting under my chair and teenager is still asleep.  Another peaceful morning. I never did make it to my studio yesterday.... got caught up with the laundry, and then decided to wash bedding etc.... one thing led to another.  Late yesterday, when I was ready to go and sew the phone rang.... that darn phone rang.... it was the greenhouse.  I was scheduled to work... holey crap-o-la, I've never been late to work let alone miss going! So I got my exercise running around like a crazy woman looking for keys, shoes, where's my t-shirt.... one of those proud moments.

So today is officially my first real day off... I've checked the calendar about 50 times this morning. Only thing on the list is dinner with in-laws.  They are usually fashionably late.  I officially have 6 hours until their arrival. Time to spruce up the house... and sew. While drinking my first cup of coffee I found out that the Traveling Stash will be coming to my home.  I'm so excited!!!! Can't wait!!!! It's like being able to peek into a treasure chest! I will try not to stalk the postman the next week or so, I can't wait until it arrives.  I will be sure to pack it with some treasures too!  I will take pictures and post all about it when it arrives!

I also signed up for the Think Christmas Blog Hop hosted by The Cuddler Quilter.  I will post more about it in a day or two.  It is going to be a busy month or two!  So many fun quilty things on my to do list!  Time to get dressed and start the day!

Happy quilting!

I've Been A Slacker....

Happy Monday!  I've been a quilting slacker, time has a tendency to get away from me.  My studio has been whispering, 'come and play, let's get some sewing done!'.  I've got several project to work on!  My 'Red & White Takes Two Quilt', 'Building Houses' challenge (I'm painfully behind), Garden Party quilt, Civil War Diary Quilt, oh gosh, the list goes on and on.  I've been busy juggling home and family.  I've spent a few days last week visiting with my parents and helping them out.  Time well spent... did get some design work done while visiting and I'm looking forward to sharing my ideas with you!  Today is my first day home and I'm not sure where to start.  It's nice to be able to lounge around in my jammies and enjoy my coffee, hubby is off to work, Wilson is watching the birds on the feeder and teenage son is still sleeping.  It's a beautiful, quiet morning. Hummmmm what to do first, laundry? dishes? dusting? I still hear the faint whisper, 'come and play...' Maybe I'll just bounce around between everything on the list... at least I've got my suitcase  unpacked.
Happy quilting and perfect stitches to you!

School's Out For Summer!

It's time to close the library up for the summer and at noon today I can start my summer vacation.  I have been looking forward to it all week!  I know all the little kiddos are sleeping in this morning and dreaming about pool parties, no homework and upcoming family vacations.  (Or at least in my perfect world, I think they are!)  I know I am looking forward to jammie days until noon, more time to quilt, fresh tomatoes from my garden and lazy afternoons spent in my hammock.  I have a couple of fun dates on my quilt calendar, Christmas in July hosted by Sew Festive and also the Red, White and Blue Blog Hop!  Hope you can join me for both fun quilty events.  (Links can be found on the sidebar on my blog)

Have a wonderful day, happy quilting!
